Sizing & Fit Guide
Sizing & Fit Guide
Getting accurate measurements is the most important step in finding the right fit. Please take your time and follow these instructions carefully.
For In-Stock Boots
Most customers can order in-stock boots using two measurements:
- Foot Length
- Ball of Foot Measurement
These measurements will help determine your recommended size and width.
What You'll Need
- A blank sheet of paper
- A thin pen or pencil
- A cloth measuring tape
- The socks you normally wear with boots
- A helper
Do not measure yourself. A helper is strongly recommended for the most accurate results.
Step 1: Measure Foot Length
Before You Start
- Put on the socks you normally wear with boots.
- Sit in a chair with both feet flat on the floor.
- Place a sheet of paper under one foot.
Take the Measurement
- Have your helper mark the tip of your longest toe.
- Have your helper mark the very back of your heel.
- Remove your foot from the paper.
- Measure the distance between the two marks.
- Write down the measurement.
- Repeat for the other foot.
Use the longer of the two measurements when selecting your size.
Step 2: Measure Ball of Foot Circumference
The ball of your foot is the widest part of your foot, just behind your toes.
Take the Measurement
- Sit with your foot flat on the floor.
- Wrap the cloth tape around the widest part of your foot.
-
The tape should pass:
- Across the big toe joint
- Around the outside of the foot behind the pinky toe joint
- Pull the tape snug, but not tight.
- Record the measurement.
- Repeat for the other foot.
Use the larger of the two measurements when selecting your width.
Step 3: Find Your Size
Select your:
- Foot Length
- Ball of Foot Measurement
Our sizing tool will recommend a size and width based on your measurements.
Please note that sizing can vary slightly between different lasts and boot models.
Made-to-Order Boots
Most customers can order made-to-order boots using the same measurements above.
If you already know your size in Frank's Boots or another Pacific Northwest boot brand, this is often all that is needed.
Need a Fully Custom Fit?
If you have:
- Hard-to-fit feet
- Significant differences between feet
- Orthotics
- Previous fit problems
- Special sizing needs
We recommend completing a Custom Fit Sheet.
The Custom Fit Sheet allows our fit consultants to evaluate your feet in greater detail and recommend sizing, width, and last adjustments specifically for you.

Please read all instructions carefully before completing the fit sheet.
For the most accurate results:
- Have someone else trace your feet.
- Stand up while being traced.
- Keep your weight evenly distributed on both feet.
- Use a thin-barrel pen.
- Measure each foot at least three times.
The more accurate your measurements are, the better we can fit your boots.
NOTICE: Please print legibly. All questions MUST be answered on this form or it will result in delays in assessing and processing your order and in some cases, it may be returned to you and you will lose your place in the queue.
